Hi Gramps I have tried WD support just hopeless, do you have a page link to get both the ISO and the MD5 checker. My device has been down for a year now and it is getting painful, tried the recovery but never seems to complete. So perhaps my download is bad, no body out there putting this stuff on and DVD.

Gary

I do not have any special links. You try the one in the post above?

Talking about recovery  so far I have created the flash drive and started the recovery. Right now I have a message on the screen that says “RECREATE STORAGE SUCCESS”. the instructions say to wait until the WDSENTINEL shows up. Hope it doesn’t take too long…I am getting old…

Depends on why you are doing recovery. If storage is bad you have to recreate then recover. Two steps/thumb drives. Sounds like you have done the middle recreate, and now need to make the bottom recover thumb drive.
recreate storage success should show after the middle step. WDSENTINEL after the bottom step

Happy Pre-New Year well at least out here on the west coast;-) I got the unit from ebay. it had a functioning drive (2TB) and two non-compatable 1TB drives. I removed the two 1TB drives and installed a dublicate of the 2TB (on the usable drives list) But I couldn’t get the unit to to migrate to raid 1. So, I started the recovery leaving the functioning drive and the new one. Besides the message on the screen I notice the two drive activity lights on, but dimly. Ithought maybe it was creating the raid 1.

By the way I’m a great gramp pa

Did I mention I’m looking for a factory recovery? there’s no data to be recovered.

Also, reading the manual I was looking for the screen to say “Storage OK”

Last past of the recovery log is;

Looks like I missed a set. thinking I was following the instructions I’m back to invalid configuration, which I believe means recreate the flash drive ;-(

as I ramble on. recreating the flash drive the process went quickly on the unit and I now have as the manual says “Storage OK” I’m using a different flash drive and moving on to the last step.

Well, the new Year isn’t starting out good ;-( The iso link from WD 1.7.6.21 gives me 1.7.5.17 when I run the setup.

well, this morning I have “Recovery Started”

Perhaps by afternoon your box will be up and running.

There are several “fixes” for windows updates hanging. You may look at this one Windows Update Client for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2: March 2016 - Microsoft Support

And once all that is done be sure and apply https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2781274

I suppose it goes without saying, keep us posted on your progress LOL

Happy 2017

Thanks for the reply. Well, it’s in the formatting drives stage. if successful…I will be somewhat confused how I did it. “Luckly” I have purchased a few of them on ebay and will, albeit taking better note, will do it again, assuming I can find the correct drives

Boo Hoo, almost done and got error code 0x80070570. Checking error I did the scan on the flash drive. There was some errors on this “New” Kingston 16GB. Redoing with another “Checked” flash drive.
