WD Desktop App does not work when not logged into same network as device

The WD My Cloud Desktop App will not log into my drive if I’m not on the same network. I get “cannot connect to device”. I’m using windows 10 on a Surface Pro 3.
I can log in using the My Cloud mobile app on my phone. I’m not sure what the issue issue is. I’ve uninstalled, re-downloaded, and re-installed the app, no use. Thanks in advance,

Does the same issue happen when you connect through the mobile app to the drive? You can also try www.wdmycloud.com and see if you can access the drive.

The mobile app works as it should. No issue with my other laptop that is running Windows 7. When accessing the drive through the wdmycloud.com I can get on but only files that are saved to a folder appear. I have addressed this issue in a separate post. I think it may be a bug with Windows 10 since I’m not having issues with other platforms, I am by no means an expert though and would love a simple solution.
