WD backup does not see any WD drives

I have a couple of My Passport drives, a 1 GB and a 4 GB. Both have been used with WD Backup quite often in the past, so I have a number of backups on them.
I had to reinstall Windows, and now that I have reinstalled, WD Backup no longer sees either external drive - so I can’t complete an install of WD Backup.
It sounds like this is a known issue and WD is not looking into anymore - as evidenced by their “solution” of using their Acronis backup software. However - will this work with all my existing backups?
I have gone through ALL of their troubleshooting steps and everything seems to be fine - disabled AV and firewall, service running, etc. Problem appears to be the WD Backup software.
I don’t want to lose these backups!
Has anyone figured this problem out?
