USB Connection to HP laptop from My Passport Wireless Pro does not work

I have a brand new 4TB My Passport Wireless Pro. When I plug the device into any USB port on my HP Laptop (3 yrs old), the laptop does not see the drive at all. There is never any of the usual indication that a new USB device has been plugged in. Nothing happens.

I’ve read numerou articles on this and other forums, tried all the recommended fixes, and am still getting the exact same results: absolutely nothing.

Any ideas?

Did you try a different USB cable? if it works, the new cable must be bad, so have WD send you a replacement.

If no change, then perhaps the drive itself has an issue. Contact WD Support.

Fix that I’ve found that works MOST of the time:

  1. Right click on the Start Menu on the Windows Desktop
  2. Select Device Manager
  3. Right click on Universal Serial Bus Controllers.
  4. Select Scan for Hardware changes.

Like I said, works MOST of the time.
