Upgraded to My Cloud OS5, now unable to login locally

Just upgraded to OS5 a few days back, it was all good & have created both new:

  • local admin
  • my cloud admin user

got into the Dashboard all good after the process of creating the 2 above.

NAS was re-indexing the files ( 6TB worth ) after the update so I thought I’ll leave it be to do its own thing.

After a few hours I went back and I was logged out of the Dashboard.
Trying to log in again via “http://mycloudex2ultra/” now automatically takes me to “https://device-local-04e72fb7-741d-4110-85a9-8d8babae437a.remotewd.com:8543/” and I can’t log in with either the local admin or the my cloud admin user credentials. ( getting the “Incorrect credentials” error - but it’s definitely correct )

FYI I installed the My Cloud OS5 Android App on my phone and I can log in via that, but I just can’t seem to login with the Web App!

What should I do? Has anyone came across this problem? If I do a factory reset, will it reset the device back to OS3? I can reboot / shut down the NAS via the Android App but I’m not sure if it has finished indexing or not - and even if it does, I’m not sure rebooting / shutting down will fix this issue?

Not sure if this is the solution to your problem but I had a similar issue when upgrading to OS5. First, make sure you are logging in to the new URL os5.mycloud.com instead of the old files.mycloud.com. I was having an issue with it taking me to the old URL. Once I got to the new URL and bookmarked it everything worked fine. Hope this helps.

Hi John, thanks for the reply - I actually have no problems logging in to the Cloud Web App - what I’m having problems with is logging into the local http://mycloudex2ultra/ ( or http://192.168.1.6/ ) to see the local Dashboard.

How do you log in to yours? e.g. to reboot the NAS etc

Hi Kevin,

From the login page my browser takes me to https://device-local-7474f7c2-756a-4eae-96e5-453e6cb90d13.remotewd.com:8543/

I am logging in through a MacBook using either Safari or Chrome and it works fine through either method. It also took me a long while for the indexing to complete but that was going on in the background while I was still able to login in to either app. I am also able to access the MyCloud app through my iPhone with no issues.

If you are receiving an invalid credentials error message, it seems to me that the problem is either a disconnect in your admin/password configuration OR with the browser you are using. What browser are you using to attempt to login? And are you using a Windows platform to login or a Mac? The fact that you are able to login via your Android phone suggests that the browser may be at play here. I don’t know offhand which browsers are supported for OS3 vs. OS5 but you might want to try using a different browser to login. Just an educated guess on my part without knowing much more about your specific configuration.

John,

From the login page my browser takes me to https://device-local-7474f7c2-756a-4eae-96e5-453e6cb90d13.remotewd.com:8543/

Yeah so it looks like it’s the default behavior. Thank you for confirming that.

If you are receiving an invalid credentials error message, it seems to me that the problem is either a disconnect in your admin/password configuration OR with the browser you are using.

The thing is, after the OS5 upgrade, now I have 2 credentials. One is for the local admin, another one is the WD MyCloud Login which is used by the MyCloud App. I have used the same password ( the local credential only allows me to change the password, the username stays as ‘admin’ ) as I have foreseen that I might confuse these 2 credentials.

Now that counts out the possibility of me using the wrong password for the local admin, since I was able to use it to login to my MyCloud account. I can’t also possibly have the wrong username because it wasn’t changeable in the first place. But it still says invalid credentials.

What browser are you using to attempt to login? And are you using a Windows platform to login or a Mac?

Have tried to log in using Chrome and Edge on a Win 10 machine. I might try logging in using a different machine from the same network.

The fact that you are able to login via your Android phone suggests that the browser may be at play here

I logged in via the MyCloud app, not a browser on an Android phone. Hence different credentials.

Seriously though, thanks so much for your time John.

Just while we’re here, once I shut down the NAS via the App, how do I turn it back on? Do I just unplug the power button and re-plug it again? Feels a bit primitive :expressionless:

Kevin,

I also have two credentials, one for the admin and one for the MyCloud login. But I don’t have any issue with logging in to either via my browser. I have different passwords for each. I assume you tried resetting the passwords already? I can’t think of anything else to try short of reinitiating the upgrade process again. But that seems like a last resort.

You might try posting a question on the support page but the answers I usually get doing that are lame. It usually amounts to someone parroting responses from a cue card and it’s rarely helpful.

As far as your shut down question, I have pretty much observed the same thing. When I installed the upgrade to OS5 I was having an issue with my drives spinning endlessly, even well beyond the indexing. I used the maintenance utility to put the NAS into hibernate mode and left it idle for some time. When I went to restart the server I saw no way to do that through the app. I wound up unplugging the power cord to get it restarted. I agree it seems like there should be another way. Now, if I log in to my router I have the ability to shut down and restart clients on my home network. Not sure if you have tried that but that may be a workaround. I haven’t seen anything mentioned about this in the user guide either.

Best of luck and feel free to reach out if you have any additional questions. So far, I’ve been pretty pleased with OS5.

I have the same problem. But OS5 has been running on the cloud for a while. I now have two web dashboards. The new admin dashboard, which now exists alongside my old dashboard, unfortunately does not show me my shares. I can’t get into the “old” web dashboard with my previous user. I recently installed Twonky and what is new is that I have to log in via https://device-local-1…8.remotewd.com:8543 and not via local IP as before. I have disabled https login with the “new” admin user and dashboard, so without my existing shares, but then I can’t get into the webdashboard via local ip with my old credentials either.

Has anyone found a solution to this problem?
