I upgraded a WD My Cloud Mirror Gen 2 to My Cloud OS 5 and the download and install seemed to have no issues, but when I try to access the device over the web I get stuck on the “Update passwords for local NAS users” page. I have repeated this attempt several times, and each time I get through updating the “admin” password (and get an email telling me that I have done this) but the following page asks (demands) that I either update my user account or “Skip this user”. It doesn’t matter which I choose (provide password or click Skip), when I click on the “Next” button nothing happens. I stay on this page until the 30 minute web access timeout kicks in and I am returned to the initial login page (with “admin” preselected). I have repeated this process five or more times now and the results are the same every time.
Screen 1: “Welcome to the new My Cloud OS 5”, with Username: admin … I fill in the password and click “LOG IN”.
Screen 2: “End User License Agreement” … I click the “I AGREE” button.
Screen 3: “Create new password”, with User name “admin” hard coded. I provide the same password I used on screen 1, twice, and click “Next”.
Screen 4: “Update passwords for local NAS users”, with my non-admin user name hard coded. Nothing I do gets me off this page, though “Skip this user” removes the user info fields. The “Next” button does nothing.
Any suggestions for how to proceed? I have not powered the device off since doing the upgrade.
Gak! I was using the latest Firefox on Windows while trying this, and I just retried using Chrome. This gets me to a new page! So, maybe this is a Firefox bug (er, feature) or a bug in My Cloud OS 5 when working with Firefox.
Creating the new account seems to also have failed … “Error”, “Something went wrong, please check that you have an active Internet connection and try again”.
I’m wishing that I had tried this while it was in beta … it was on my To Do list …
I’m having the same problem… and i’ve just bought this cloud.
i wish i haven’t do this upgrade today…
More of a bug in My Cloud OS 5, when I initially started I used Chrome and was stuck in that loop. Then I used Incognito in Chrome and it worked.
I did eventually get it working … new remote account and the ability to log into the NAS server and reinstall Plex, for example, which seems to be working. Speaking of working, after 20 hours of indexing the WD My Cloud Mirror Gen 2 is still working its butt off and making a lot of noise … fan noise as well as disk noise, so it’s running hot and hard. I am at a loss for how the indexing could be this painful … I have somewhere between 1 and 2 TB of data stored and it’s mostly backups of Mac and Windows, which is not stuff that should be indexed. The 275 GB of music files have lots of metadata, but still …
For what it’s worth, I gave up and turned off remote access, and that indeed stops the infinite indexing operation. The mobile app was useless anyway, because the NAS was so busy that everything timed out. Moreover, it’s not really a feature I need. The NAS is responsive and fairly quiet with the “Cloud access” turned off, which makes the device useful again. Your mileage may vary …
