Since the last firmware update my TimeMachine setup with MyCloudex2Ultra has stopped working. I am trying to fix this now (among other things going back to a previous version of the firmware).
My setup that has been working for months was this:
- Two MacBooks backing up to the NAS.
- Each has its own user to log in.
- Each has its own folder on the NAS to back up to.
Actually I don’t know anymore why I set up two separate folders, one for each user, for the two machines.
But is it possible to back up two machines to one and the same folder? So two backup bundles lying in that same folder?
Because that seems to be one of the problems now: In the mycloud settings I can only chose one of the two folders for the Time Machine backups. And when I do that the other Macbook doesn’t find its TimeMachine folder anymore. This seems to be a new problem.
Also, AFP is turned off, while in the mycloud settings it says that AFP is automatically turned on when TimeMachine backup option is turned on. But that does not seem to be the case – the AFP option stays turned off.
I don’t even know anymore if I used AFP or SMB for doing the backups. How can I actually find that out as well? I read that it’s better to use SMB and that this does not make problems with Time Machine.
I don’t want to lose the backup bundle. It goes back months and starting a new backup from scratch takes days. At the moment, one of the Macbooks finds the backup and can continue doing the backups (I don’t even know how I managed to do this, because it actually had stopped doing backups for two weeks). But the other Macbook only finds its TimeMachine volume but not the old backups, so it wants to start a completely new backup (although the backup bundle is still there in the folder).
thanks for any help…
