Trouble Formating "My Passport" for Mac and getting it up and running

Hi There,

Hopefully there is some one that is a bit more techy than I am that will be able to help me with this.
I just purchased a “My Passport” 3T, for my MacBook Pro which I purchased in
Jan/17. (Mac OS Sierra 10.12.6)
I HAVE to back it up as the memory is almost full, I take a lot of photos. My old external hard drive is full.

I purchased it and followed the instructions for my Mac. It seems to have down loaded OK, but it is locked.
When I follow the instructions for unlocking it, it just sends me in a loop, but doesn’t unlock it.

I have included screen shots from my computer.

Any advice would be more than welcome.

Is your drive is password protected?
