Hi,
my Timemachine Backups are failing since a few weeks.
I’m on an Macbook Air 2020 M1 with macOS Monterey 12.6.
The timemachine backup was done using SMB.
I can still mount the WD MyHome via smb://MyCloud-XXXXXX._smb._tcp.local in the finder.
Reproducable steps on my machines are:
-
Try to do a backup via system settings/timemachine → Error popup stating “Time machine has recognized, you Backups on “MyCloud-…” cannot be recovered correctly. Time machine has to delete your backup history and start a new backup to solve this”
-
Click on “Delete backup history” button in this popup → System notification pops up stating the following: "Time machine could not finish the backup on “MyCloud-…”. Time machine could ned delete the Backup image under “/Volumes/.timemachine/MyCloud-XXX.smb_tcp.local//TimeMachineBackup/Macbook.sparsebundle”
I investigated via finder and see that timemachine indents to open an SMB share while trying to delete backup history. This fails.
How can this issue be solved ? Any experience and feedback is heartly welcomed.
Regards,
Frank
