Streaming Media

Is there a dongle available to allow me to stream videos from my “Mycloud Wireless” to my TV.

Hi and welcome to the WD community.

You can search on Google for 3rd party devices that can stream video to your TV wirelessly, lets see if another user can share some tips and information for you on this matter.

Since the My Passport Wireless (not My Cloud wireless) simply is a network-accessible disk attached via WiFi, it depends on the capabilities of your TV.  Check your TV’s manual.

Bruce,

Your question boils down to simply, “How can I play videos on my MPW drive to my TV?”, and I and others have discussed this in various threads in this MPW forum, so search the threads here.

Secondly, you cannot use the My Cloud app to do it, so you need a different app or none at all.  If you have a Smart TV, that could make it somewhat easier, but I do not have a Smart TV and can do this very well.  The main trick is that the MPW and Smart TV are on the same home network, example, say your router’s signal name is Bruce’sWiFi. A Smart TV is likely connected to this signal.  So, you need to not use the MPW’s own wireless signal and connect the MPW to the same home network.  The full instruction manual for MPW explains how .Once the MPW and TV are on the same network, the TV can likely see the MPW and get files from it to play on TV.

Without a Smart TV you need a media player like my WDTV that can see the MPW on the network, and access its files to play them to TV.

You can also use some mobile apps, but not knowing if you are using iOS or Android platform on your mobile devices, I cannot tell you much more other than I use iOS apps that, by using my iPad or phone, allows me to cast the medta on the MPW to the TV. Tell us more info and maybe we can help further.

The TV is a Samsung, but not “Smart TV”.
My computer is a PC with windows 7.
All other devices, 2 iPads & 1 iPhone are of course iOS.
It appears that I may need a Samsung specific dongle for the home TV, which is not much help when I am overseas and watching a variety of TV manufacture, which is what I was hoping to do.

I use an apple AV adapter for my iDevices when I’m traveling.
