SMB signature support in WD MyCloud

Hello. I could not find a post on this subject. My apologies if the question has already been asked. Now that Windows 11 requires SMB signature there is no way to access MyCloud on local network. Workaround is to disable the signature requirement in Windows but this may be a security issue. Is there a way to enable this feature in the MyCloud? If it is not yet supported will this support be added? Thank you.

Only Windows 11 24H2 does that and Microsoft/Ned Pyle has a blog on the issues since May 2024.

Please refer to the official Samba package. There has never been a feature of the My Cloud Home to access the smb.conf file.

Thank you for the reply. I have indeed seen that blog however I am not sure what the correct solution for the MyCloud Home is. Sorry that I am not super technical in this matter. Just a user trying to get help. I did not understand the post of the new firmware. Is that an optional firmware to install in the MyCloud Home to solve the signature issue? I’d appreciate if someone could explain what the correct solution is. If this cannot be solved the device becomes useless. Thank you very much.

The previous answer and link contained all the information you need to solve the higher network security requirement of Win11 24H2. If you are not running 24H2, it doesn’t concern you. We have no way of knowing what you are running.

Have the patience to read through the Microsoft Blog, all the way to the bottom of that page, it tells you everything you need to know.

To see any unsigned network shares from Win11 24H2, you need to implement step 8 in Win11, which is simply this, can’t really get any simpler than that. If you think this is a security risk, don’t use any unsigned network share.

Set-SmbClientConfiguration -RequireSecuritySignature $false
