Since a Windows 11 Update it is impossible to connect to MyCloudEx Drive in a local network anymore. It has worked for years without any issues on both computers.
It happend on my first computer a few weeks ago after a Windows 11 update. Now it happend on my second one as well since I have updated it last weekend.
The only way to connect is to change group policy and accept unsafe guest registrations.
I took me hours to find a way to connect to my MyCloudEx again and had to pay a guy for it.
Why is that happening all of a sudden, what solution does WD have?
The issue is Win 11 24H2. It enforces SMB signing as a security measures. If the NAS doesn’t support it, or isn’t enabled, it won’t connect. You can read more here:
Disabling the signing aspect and/or allowing Guest fallback is the fix, unless it can be enabled in the NAS. Bear in mind that the previous version/patch level (23H2) did NOT enforce this. So this is the way you’ve been connecting all along prior to the upgrade.
Since I have an EX4 (OS3, no longer supported) I’ll have to live with it this way. Not an issue since there are no inbound connections from the web allowed (only local lan).
If your specific model is still supported, I suggest you review the OS5 docs to see if you can turn it on or contact WD Support directly.
Thanks for the info. I have a “Mycloud Ex2ultra” so I am not sure if I can amend it the way
Microsoft is recommending. Maybe I also have to live with it this way…
I am not using the EX2 for inbound connections from the web either eversince (have turned it off), just in local lan for my 2 computers. For everything else I have my data on a PCloud Server.
So as far as I understand there should not be any risk using it that way!?
