I recently discovered some problems when accessing the NAS from my company laptop, which requires SMB signing. Is WD planning to integrate this feature in the OS5 firmware? I’m currently on version 5.29.102.
I suggest you contact WD Support and ask them directly.
Meanwhile, check out this thread.
This is the expanded bulletin from Microsoft
Whether or not you can “workaround” this depends on the restrictions your company imposes on the laptop.
Thanks Saudade,
I know about the workaround. However, I do not know if SMB signing will be mandatory for our company laptops in future, so it would be better if OS5 can handle this.
Interestingly, my connection was not completely blocked, but only throttled to approx. 220 MBit/s (in a 1 GBit/s wired LAN).
I’ve created a ticket and will post the results.
I got the following response from support:
"[…] WD will of course take the necessary steps to ensure compatibility with future Windows updates and changes will come through future updates.
What you can do to address this issue at the moment is make sure that network discovery is turned on and that you are not using an email address to access your shares.

So I hope the issue will be resolved in future. I still do not know, if OS5 supports SMB signing or not
From what I read, this is mostly an issue for guest access?
I am not sure if you will have a problem if you sign on as a “user” with a “password”?
(I can’t tell, as I have not updated to Win11 or OS/5 on my boxes)
I log in with user and password and I am using SMB 3.1.1. My NAS is a MyCloudEX2Ultra with firmware OS 5.29.102.
When I switch off SMB Signing in Win11 and re-establish the connection, I get the full bandwidth 1 GBit/s. When SMB Signing is on, I only get 220 MBit/s.
I do not know if OS5 is capable of SMB Signing or not. But SMB Signing on/off has obviously an impact.
