SmartWare 2.4.4 - Automatic backup

Hi

WD My Cloud (NAS) is connected to my Internet router, and WD My Passport Ultra (usb harddrive) is connected to my Windows 7 computer. All devices are in the same home network. This automatically backups works ok:

  1. From computer to My Passport
  2. From My Passport to My Cloud.

As I understand, I can not set My Cloud as a backup source, but is it still possible?

The reason for my question is that I plan to have a centrel storage for all my PC’s, tablets, mobiles and DLNA equipments in WD My Cloud.

Hello BeKn2,

Welcome to the WD Community.

You should be able to create a safepoint of your drive to the passport connected on your computer through the network.

Please see page 92 and 93 of the user manual for more information.

Thank you for your reply ERmorel.

Yes of course…, that can be the solution. I will create a safepoint on my drive and try it out.

I will probably buy an extra USB 3.0 Passport drive, and connect it to directly to My Cloud. The transfer speed will be better (because my computer motherboard only supports USB 2.0) and scheduled automatic backups can be done without any need of access to another network drive.
