I connected a USB 3.0 portalbe HDD to My cloud and tried to transfer videos. The transfer rate is about 300 KB/sec and to transfer the entier 28 GB, its estimating over a day. I had left the transfer on the whole night and i still have a day left! Is there any way to transfer content faster between My cloud and a USB/HDD drive?
I’d certainly like an answer here as well. I have 2.4TB of data on my 4TB WD My Cloud. I’ve connected a USB 3.0 Seagate drive to the USB port on the My Cloud to use in creating a safepoint. I started the safepoint creation at 10:00pm on 1/1. It has been running non-stop since then and I’m still at only 46% complete. There are a lot of files. This is my entire iTunes library including a lot of movies and TV shows. But still - is it really going to take 4.5 to 5 days to duplicate 2.4TB of data via a USB 3.0 connection? That seems a bit slow.
The My Cloud is connected to a gigabit Airport Extreme. Lights on the back of the MyCloud are green (confirming a gigabyte connection). Just can’t for the life of me understand why this copy/safepoint creation is taking this long.
I will add my post to the list. Received MyCloud 4 TB two days ago. My Safepoint via the USB 3 port to a USB 3 external drive is extremely slow.
I am also having problems with the response time between my computers and the MyCloud drive. All wiring is Cat6, Gigabit switch using both a Mac and a PC. Everything is way too slow compared to the advertised speeds.
Need a fix or this will be returned.
I’m having the same issue. 2.1Tb on MyCloud. I started my first Safepoint transfer yesterday expecting it to complete overnight, but this morning it was at 11% and now (24 hours into transfer) it has still only done 23% (470Gb), so less than a quarter. So it looks like 4-5 days to complete just over 2Tb via USB 3.0. Seems VERY slow. I’m just hoping that subsequent Safepoint updates will only have to copy any new data (not the whole lot again)
This is a serious flaw in an otherwise pretty nifty product. I would also like a fix soon.
Add me to the list (posted same question yesterday)
Creating safepoint 3.5tb data takes for ever, why even bother to have usb 3.0 if it performs like USB 1.0
Add me to the list too. Hopefully a firmware update can address this issue - and soon.
Add me to the list.
My Cloud 4 GB
Airport Extreme
Copying files from a USB 3 drive connected to My Cloud USB port to My Cloud drive is extremely slow, about 30 Megabytes per second.
Try the WD desktop app instead to do the copying
Add me to the list!
WD desktop application results the same.
WD myCloud 4T trying to transfer over usb 3.0
Add me to the list, and it would be really nice if someone from WD responded.
EX4 16TB
Plugged in Seagate 4TB USB 3.0
Transferring just under 4TB to EX4, it’s been running for over a week non-stop and isn’t even close to completing the transfer. Using an iMac 2013 i7 to transfer the files, I don’t believe this makes a difference though.
I have the same issue, anyway to solve this?
I have connected a WD Elements 1TB but the transfer is extremely slow, if it’s not solved I will return the My Cloud.
Hi,
Same problem. Using a ftp software like Filezilla allows better transfer rates than a copy from Windows, but still this HDD is a mess as it does not allow fast direct transfers between the MyCloud and an external USB3 drive.
I’D REALLY LIKE SOMEONE FROM WD TO AT LEAST POST SOMETHING HERE !
Just to let us know at least that this problem is taken into account.
Please provide an update either to speed up the direct USB3 transfer rate, or why not, a way to plug the HDD on a computer using the USB3 so at least we could do some mass transfers at a highest rate.
Btw, I hardly advise my friends to do not buy this kind of HDD from WD. And if no solution soon, will post a negative comment on my supplier’s site to prevent people from bying it

Please be advice that although WD Staff members sometimes reply to get users on the right direction, the forum is mainly for user to user interaction.
If you need a direct response from WD on this issue we recommend to contact our support department directly.

This is a joke! Safepoint through USB 3 is useless.
Any luck someone?
MyCloud4TB (Firmware v03.04.01-219)
Thanks for the link to support, as I’ve just seen your reply. Since my message, I received an email from WD’s ceo, so it seems that the problem has been seriously taken into account.
Beside this, if I posted on the forum was to give one of my tip, use a ftp client instead of os copy programs.
Thanks

I have some doubts
Same problem here with 3TB MyCloud. Copying from USB HDD plugged into MyCloud goes at 300kbps. Can’t be true.

I think you are referring to the email about the WD relay outage for a week and half. Yes, that email was sent to every customer who registered a My Cloud device (My Cloud regular, EX2 and EX4). That email had nothing to do with this slow file transfer issue you are trying to resolve.
I am afraid my friend that the slow file transfer issue can’t be alleviated much (unless you are using wi-fi and not wired connection, in which case you should see a jump when using awired connection). This has to do with the fact that My Cloud regular is not a very powerful device. It’s meant to be a simple solution but has very low powered hardware. To get better transfer rates but still not great rates, you need the My Cloud EX2/EX4/Mirror products…which are better hardware-wise than My Cloud regular.

Hmmm, I don’t know . I have excellet transfer speed (consistent) via wired network (52 MBps/65MBps r/w ).
I am building a 3TB USB drive. (a 3.0 USB enclosure and a 3tb Sata 3 drive).
This will be tested on my PC and then connected to mycloud and test again. Tomorrow I get the final part and will test and report here.
Om I got my enclosure and I wanted to test the usb on my cloud. MY 3TB drive will arrive tomorrow but for today I put an old, knackered drive 500GB in the enclosure and initial tests:
write (pc ( usb.2.0) <->external 3.0 usb, with Sata 2 3GB/s drive, 16MB cache) machine has only usb 2.0

This last result is interesting, because it is slower by 1 minute than when I connected the drive to my PC which only has usb 2.0
copying from mycloud to drive = 4 minutes (same data)
Still not conclusive, we shall see tomorrow how it behaves when I install this beast 3TB, Sata 3 with 64 MB cache, 7200 RPM.
