3 TB MyCloud at the latest firmware. Setting up a safepoint on my 3 TB MyBook attached thru the 3.0 USB port. The data on MyCloud is 230Gig. It has been copying data for 24 hours and is only at 83% complete. This is just way too long to transfer data across a USB 3.0 port. Any help would be appreciated…
Hello,
Verify if you are using a Gigabit LAN port or 100 Megabit port?

I have the same thing. Way too slow. Perhaps NTFS is not the best disc format. Does anyone know what the disc should be formatted to for the best performance?
@HDknows (or doesn’t?)
Your response has nothing to do with described problem.
I hope WD actually realizes there is problem transferring from Mycloud to Mybook (creating safepoint) and it has nothing to do with network speed  but slow on board USB connection.

No, it has nothing to with that, either. The on-board USB isn’t that slow.
Safepoints use RSYNC. They’re not just a straight up file copy.
RSYNC manages a checksumming process to see when data has changed.
RSYNC is SLOOOOOW on the first copy, and then much faster on changes since the whole file system doesn’t have to be re-examined.
In other words: It’s normal.
Google RSYNC Performance to see more.

So I timed a copy of 2,464,943,143 bytes (2.5 Gbytes) to a local USB disk. It took 68 seconds, yielding 36,249,163 (36 megabytes per second) copy speed.
Plenty fast.
If you can get the updates (RSYNC) actually working…
Moving data over network to the external drive is also slower then the Mycloud internal drive

Well, sure. Even if the internal and external disks are identical (WD RED of whatever size) USB will be slower because USB in general is slower than SATA (despite all the marketing hype.)
My SAFEPOINT is about 540GB.
The initial sync took less than 24 hours and my USB drive is NTFS format, USB 3.0.
Is your USB drive 2.0 or 3.0?
