cannot access my WDmycloud I have been trying all week and I urgently need to access my files, it seems that all my shared drives have gone both private and public, although when I look at twonky they seem to all be still in tact I have been trying to access it and I cannot I have rebooted it several times and nothing. It does not do a scan of the hard drive it just comes up with Err, I know that the files have not been deleted but I am ubable to access them. I just would like it to how it was before working normally.I have been in touch with support and they have not responded. Thank you
What have you tried so far? Did you try to use the Desktop app as well as direct access through the network section in Windows Explorer (Or Finder, if you’re on a Mac)? Can you access the unit’s Dashboard and create a new test share with public access? Does it give you an error as well? Can you access your files using the Web client?
Hi I had been only able to access my cloud via Twonky, however a day or so later I have been abel to access my shares via explorer however I am unable to access them via the dashboard it is still blank and the scan says err. my shares on my cloud on my network are all now public and I can do nothing to change it.The dashboard does not give me any information. The only thing I know for sure is that all my stuff is still on the drive. Am not sure what to do now if you could advise. Many thanks
If is not clear, Can you access the My Cloud Dashboard?
If so from the Dashboard one can reconfigure the Shares to Private and assign User Access to those Private Shares.
If you cannot access the Dashboard then have you tried a 4 second reset and or a 40 second system restore using the reset button the back of the My Cloud?
A side question related to being unable to access the Dashboard, is this a My Cloud unit that you unbricked previously?
Hi I have just down the 40 sec reset and it looks like it has worked. Although it now says in other 2.8TB and 110 GB Free which is correct can I ask. Where are my shares it also has admin up does that mean I have to set this up again not a problem just need to know or are all my shares etc somewhere, A couple of important things, Can I now plug an external hard drive at the back as before, also when I do that do I have to turn off the sytem or can I plug it in and it will find it?
Many thanks for your help
Not quite sure what you are asking or saying. But yes after doing a system restore you will have to make any changes to the Shares (making them Private) that you previous did as well as configure or create any Users if those accounts are missing or the account settings have reverted to default. Any changes you previously did to the default My Cloud settings would have to be done again after the system restore.
Yes you can plug a USB external hard drive in as you previously did to the My Cloud. Note however it is generally NOT recommended to simply unplug a USB external hard drive from the back of the My Cloud without first selecting the Eject option via the USB icon () in the My Cloud Dashboard.
