Here we go again. Before updating the firmware (v04.05.00-315) I paused for a bit and wondered whether it was worth the update and risk safepoint stability.
Sure enough, Safepoint update failed after new firmware. 2nd attempt to update also failed. I deleted and rebuilding the update but no idea whether this will succeed.
Does a specific error message get generated when the Safepoint fails? What alert/notification message, if any, is displayed when selecting the Alert/Notification icon in the Dashboard ()?
There are several past discussions on issues with Safepoint post 315 upgrade that can be found using the forum search feature (magnifying glass icon upper right). Here are some of them.
I deleted the safepoint and tried creating a new one. After nearly 2 days of running, it failed with this error:
Your safepoint cannot be created due to a failed request. Please try creating your safepoint again. (36123)
I have removed the drive from the MY Cloud and connected to my PC. Found that it had one uncorrectable sector count error in the SMART data. WD Drive Utils reported the drive is OK. Did a firmware update for good measure. Reformated and reconnected the drive to My Cloud.
Now running another new Safe Point create. Will see how that goes.
For anyone interested, this was eventually resolved by using the manual firmware update method to reapply latest firmware. Note that the previous update was done via the Web UI and did not report any issues. The device was working fine on the latest firmware except for safepoint create.
I guess this means firmware should always be updated manually.
