Regarding My Book 4TB Tests

Greetings, I recently got my drive and I installed the software that came with it and started testing. SMART and Fast Testing succeeded successfully. Though, the full hdd scan failed on 20-30% I was not around to see which percentage so I calculated based on time. Anyway, I read that the software that comes with the drive for testing is faulty. I am not sure if that is the case. So, I went ahead and started Fast and Extended Scans on Data Lifeguard Diagnostic. All the tests worked without issues. The extended test took 9 hours but I received the message “Test Completed Successfully.” So, here is my question which test is more accurate, the software that came with the drive or Data Lifeguard. Should I be concerned at all that the software on the drive reported that it failed at all? Should I replace the drive? I just got it.

Are you having any issues with the unit? Try to run the test again with a different prt or cable as well.

ArMak, thanks for the reply. I have not used the drive yet. I want to use as a backup for when I am traveling. So, I have to know for sure it its working without issues or not. So, like I said in topic I ran the diagnostic program that came with the drive and it failed at 20-30%. Then I ran the DLG tool and it succeeded on both the fast and extended tests. I am not sure which test result I should trust.

I see your concern, however in my opinion of course, have more trust in DLG, since it is a software dedicated to test hard drives, but this is in my opinion at least.

I read a review with a guy having the same problem I am having. He said that he replaced the drive and got the same issue and when he contacted WD support again. The guy told him that software is bugged and that he should use DLG instead which WD uses for testing. You can refer to Amazon for the full review.

Hi. I’m having the same issue. I went to the site and downloaded the software to run the full test but it still fails at 20-30%. Should I return it? I’m afraid to use it.

Go ahead and try the DLG if it reports 100% success, then it is working properly. My drive is working ok for now.
