Quick Restore or Full Restore?

All,

Can someone explain to me whether Quick Restore or Full Restore is better for my need?

I noticed that my My Cloud (3TB) wasn’t updating all files, and since it’s been too long since I installed it, I decided to start over. My plan was to restore all settings to factory default, delete the data on the My Cloud, then delete and reload WD applications.

One confusion for me is whether to do a Quick Restore or Full Restore. I believe both delete all settings. I **think** that the difference is:

  • Quick Restore basically marks the data on the drive as rewritable, essentially a quick format of sorts, and

  • Full Restore specifically writes over every byte on the drive, thus, takes far longer.

I do want to delete my old files, but have no need for any high-level erasure. My question is whether a Quick Restore does what I need or not (thus requiring full restore). Appreciate the help.

FYI, it’s a Windows 8.1, 64 bit machine.

Quick restore does what you need.

Thanks for the response! Any idea how to stop a full restore in progress without bricking the My Cloud (the quick restore option is dimmed and no longer selectable)?

Hi pmignini,

did you ever got a reply outside this forum?

I did a full restore 49hrs ago and the thing still going. Personally I think it’s incredible WD doesn provide a guideline on timings or at least a progress bar…
I’ve got the 2TB my clound disk drive.

Any help would be appreciated as I’m trying to wipe everything I have in it so that I can sell it… i can’t cope with the costant delays this machine has when transferring files… the last suprise was this factory restore never-ending loop.

Thanks
