I’ve scoured the forums but can’t find an answer to this question.
Recently, after cleaning house I found my NAS that hadn’t been in use. Now, when I try to connect to it through our local home mesh network, I can’t find it - nor can I access it through the dashboard.
Is there any way I can update the firmware to my NAS, or is it bricked for good?
What does the screen says on it?
If you mean the PR4100 screen, it says the device default name, the local IP address, device temp, something else that I forgot, and that it’s in standby mode.
If you mean the OS Dashboard, it says the device is offine even when it’s turned on and has an IP address displayed.
Yes the PR4100’s screen.
What’s the IP address displayed?
Is the address an address from the DHCP server? Or a dumb address waiting for a proper one?
Best
Sorry, the address I get is 192.168.7.231
Does it look like any other local IP address your PC or phone is getting?
If not, it may not be given an IP address from your router.
I can see the device the device listed in my router under “connected devices”
However, all the other devices have a 192.168.1.XXX address
This does not sound bricked.
It just sounds like it’s got a wonky IP address.
A 4 second or 40 second reset probably can restore the network defaults and reset user accounts (but does preserve data - the data shares just have to be reassigned to users)
But the reset probably isn’t necessary. If you put \\192.168.7.231 in your web browser. . . what happens? I would expect it to produce the device dashboard. From there, you can set the device to “Use DHCP” for network addressing - - → At that point it will pick up a “more rational” ip address from your router. You could also get to the dashbard by using the \\“device default name” in the web browser.
The device data should also be accessible from the network section of Windows file explorer (or the MAC equivalent)
— once you get access to the device; you will need to update the firmware if you want to access via WD servers. They had “issues” and banned non-current firmware from their servers. You should be able to force an update (either direct from a server; or from a file) once you access the dashboard.
I tried typing in the ip address in my web browser as well as //MyCloudPR4100 and both did not resolve or load any page “Site can’t be reached”.
I will try the 40 second reset and hopefully that will let me access the dashboard so I can update the firmware.
