PR4100 Adding additional drives

I know there are plenty of questions posted here regarding adding additional drives to the PR4100, but I haven’t found one that addresses the same scenario I have and I don’t want to mess this up. I’ll start off with by stating that I do maintain off-site backups of the data on my PR4100, but if I can prevent the loss of my local data that would be ideal because I do not relish trying to restore 8TB of data. Anyways, here’s my scenario. My PR4100 has two drives installed, each set-up as JBOD. One is 8TB and the other is 3TB. The 8TB is for general storage, the 3TB maintains backups of my local devices (which are not backed up off-site as each device has it’s own individual off-site backup). The 8TB drive is reaching capacity, so I need to add another drive. I know I can just plug in a new drive and have the PR4100 create a new volume, but I’d rather expand the existing volume (change to RAID set-up to SPAN) then create a new one. So my question is how do I add a new drive and have it’s capacity added to the existing volume without having to resort to buying an additional drive to create a local temporary backup of the data, adding the new disk to the drive, creating the RAID (SPAN) setup for the two disks (deleting the data on the original drive), and then copying the data back to the newly created volume and leaving me with an additional (expensive) disk hanging around? I mean, I know I can insert the left-over disk as an additional volume in my PR4100, but I’d like to only buy one drive if I can get away with it. Thanks!

I think you are out of luck.

If I understand; you are trying to EXPAND a single JBOD disk to a Raid 0 (two disks; considered as one volume). Anytime you change raid mode on a drive, I think you will wipe it. (Converting from JBOD to Raid 0 is a change).
