I have a PR4100 with 2*4Tb red drives configured RAID 0. (My data is not mission critical and I backup to external drives on a regular basis). I now want to add a third 4Tb drive. Will the PR4100 want to re-format all 3 drives or will it sort out expanding the single volume to 3 drives on its own?

It should give you the option to create new volume as JBOD or you can create a new RAID 0 with 3 drives but this option will reformat the other two drives.
