It has taken me some time to work this out but the devices will not be registered when using My cloud on the local network. You need to be operating remotely before you will be asked for the code that is generated for each device you intend to deploy for remote access. Should this not be made clear in the User Manual?
While devices (mobile or otherwise) may need a code for remote access to the My Cloud depending on how you setup remote access. For local network access one can prevent access to the My Cloud by setting up each Share (other than Public) as a Private Share via the My Cloud Dashboard. Then assign User access to that Private Share (full access, read only access, no access). This way you can prevent access to non authenticated users to all shares but the main Public Share (at least on the first gen single bay v4.x firmware My Clouds).
For remote access, if I remember right one can bypass the need for the “code” by selecting log in with MyCloud.com User Name in the app or software (if that option is available).
@GeorgeBJ Have you read the information/Help provided in the Dashboard?
If the Users are family or live with you they can set up there devices at home using the code. Remember the code must be used within 48 hrs or you will have to provide the person with a new code to set up a device.
