Passport detected but not in File explorer after Acronis WD True Image format So cannot reformat

Hi guys,

I read all the instructions that came with the Acronis True Image WD Edition.

Even all the frustrated users that said it was a junk software. But still I tried.

I safely saved all my data to another external drive and then followed the instructions to start the process of cloning.

Acronis stopped at the BIOS access after reboot  because there was something preventing Acronis accessing the BIOS.

I had a hard time finding how to go to the BIOS because in Windows 8/10, the F2 button doesn’t work unless you go to the settings (I cannot even find where or how I got there in the first place. I just try while I’m writing to you and it is not there anymore. I think it appeared because I had to do a hard shutdown, maintaining my finger on the button for more than 3 seconds to shut it down. When it started again, it was written it was repairing windows because of a problem at start up so I had access to a setting that I don’t find anymore) and manage clicking on the UEFI settings and disable it.

Then you get to the BIOS, disable UEFI and can see Acronis in the choices. Save and restart.

Acronis started to clone almost immediately.

I did all what is written in the instruction until there was a problem, after almost 4 hours.

Acronis found “Bad Sectors” like. It says : “Failed to read data from disk”, Failed to read from sector ‘992,512,984’. Try to repeat the operation. If the error persists, check the disk using Check Disk Utility and create a backup of the disk. R/W operation on MD device has failed. (0x590001). Retry   Ignore   Ignore all   Cancel.

I hit Cancel and got back to Windows and did a Check Disk and Windows didn’t find any bad sector on the Source drive.

When I went to check my WD Passport USB 3.0/2.0 external drive, I plugged it and it lit but lit steady. No activity what so ever.It is recognize by the USB Media driver but cannot be seen in the Windows File Explorer so I cannot reformat it and start again.

So now I need you all to recover my Passport drive because I’m out of options.

Thanks in advance guys.

Does this have anything to do with a MyCloud?

If not, you’re in the wrong forum…

Hi cpt-paranoia.

First. I thought I was on the “external drives” section of the community.

Sorry about that.

But at the same time.

Who are you ?

Do you work for WD ?

Anyway.

One thing about frustration on those sites is that, the solution comes rarely from the people who sold us our hardware.

What we expect from WD is to “GET” a solution from them in a minute to half-an-hour top so we can keep working.

I’m stuck with my problem since 16h yesterday.

I just found the solution and it was easy to find for somebody that would work for WD !!!

Here is the solution.

Select the Passport section on the main page of WD.

Go to downlaod/support.

http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?groupid=218&sid=171&lang=en

Download the WD Utility program, follow the instruction, click the .exe file and check your drive.

Once your drive has pass all level of verifications, do ERASE and after that, Windows File Explorer will see your drive.

Then you can format it as you wish.

That’s the kind of answer a customer is expecting from WD.

Hope it helped you guys.

Like you, I’m a user of WD products. Like the vast majority of people on these user forums, I don’t work for WD.

Glad you managed to find an answer within the Support pages.
