Part of MyCloud has become invisible on one of my computers

For the past year or so I’ve had no trouble accessing My Cloud Mirror II (12TB) from my laptop (Win 10), my desktop (Win XP SP3) and even my other desktop (Linux Mint 18.1). Last night, while logging in to it from my XP unit, it suddenly disappeared. Well, the non-public portion became invisible to my XP unit, though the public part is still accessible from it and everything remains accessible on the other two computers.

I have no idea where to even start getting the XP computer to see the non-public again, and I am not looking forward to experimenting with uninstalling and reinstalling WD software. So, has anyone had a similar problem, and if so, how did s/he finish up solving it?

Hi there

The shares on the My Cloud or other WD NAS (Network Attached Storage) drives can be accessed from file explorer. However if the shares are not accessible, It is recommended to check the link below for useful article.

If the issue persists. Please contact our support team for further assistance.

Thanks, Victor 1501. The problem was that for an unknown reason the non-public directories and files simply could no longer be seen by Window XP’s file manager. At one stage I thought that it might have had something to do with me switching the NAS device off, then rebooting it, but then I remember that I did that because the XP box had already lost contact, hoping that somehow a reboot will re-establish contact.

Mapping them back in was part of the solution. Unfortunately, beginning with \WDMyCloudMirror, the files remained inaccessible. The drive was set to disconnected. The only way around it was to replace the name (\WDMyCloud…) with its location (\195.188. 0…)

So, sort of solved. I still don’t know how or why the connection was lost, but at least next time this happens I know what to do about it.
