I Bought a 3TB WD Drive about three months ago. - I have never been able to get it to work.
There were no instructions with the device - simply a card with a web url on it, - this web url was 404 and unreachable.
I have corresponded with WD and received little help really, - The instructions received all tell me to upgrade the firmware by using a link in the control panel, - however…
I cannot access the control panel. (this was pointed out in my correspondence).
I have found the link to the setup program using google and the WD website but when I run it it simply stalls and tells me I have no communication with the device, - so … NO control panel and no way to upgrade firmware as far as I can ascertain. ( http://i.imgur.com/CCZHE0Y.jpg )
The device is visible on my network and appears as a “WDCLOUD” icon - I can write to the drive and read from it but cannot access it through my browser.
I`ve tried the “pin” hard reset and it is resolutely the same.
Ive tried disabling my firewall and anti virus, I
ve also tried uninstalling the same. - no change.
There is a blue light on the front panel. - When I try to access the device using the web/server url " http://192.168.1.8/" I see a blank page and a “can’t establish a connection to the server at 192.168.1.8.” message.
My question is a simple one - Is this drive faulty and is there ANYTHING I can do to get it to work?
I cannot just take it back for replacement now because of the amount of time that has passed - ( the replies from WD were all missed at first because they were lost in my Email SPAM folders, the receipt is lost and the replies I`ve received all make the assumption that I can access this “control panel”).
any help?
