New WD Elements Play 2TB has stopped sending a signal to my TV and the remote control doesn't work

Hi guys, my new WD Elements Play 2TB has stopped sending a signal to my TV and is not responding to the remote control at all.

I just bought the WD unit and connected to my new Samsung Series 6 46” LCD via HDMI and turned on. The menu came up and I was able to navigate through the menu ok with the remote control, so copied across some videos from a thumb drive and they played just fine through the TV.

There was a power failure while the WB unit was still on, so I unplugged the unit from the TV and then connected to my laptop via USB and copied 1GB worth of Videos and music to the WD unit.

After reconnecting to the TV, the WD unit does not send a signal anymore and is not responding to the remote at all. I can’t even turn the WD unit on or off with the remote even in another room and replaced the batteries which work in other remotes. I have checked the remote control using my digital camera which appears to be working fine. I have also tried using RCA component cables instead of HDMI and using various slots and a also new HDMI cable, the TV is just recognising the WD unit anymore. I’ve pushed the reset button several times, holding in for more than 10 seconds and is not doing anything.

The thing is – the WD unit works with my computer fine through USB, but has simply stopped working with my TV.  I also plugged back into my laptop and did a “Safe Eject” and have also ran a successful quick test with WD Digital Data Lifeguard. No difference. However the unit fails the extended test and when I selected the repair option it failed, showing the error message

“Error detected while repairing bad sector”

Please Help!?

Dude, it’s possible that even though the EP can still work as a regular external drive, the power failure damaged something related to media playback on a TV… I’d replace it if I were you. DLG only checks the EP for errors or problems related to its functions as a hard drive, so I wouldn’t be surprised it passed (Even with bad sectors) and still doesn’t work on the TV…
