WD Elements™ Play Multimedia Drive, 2TB is not responding, black screen

Unfortunately my  WD Elements™ Play Multimedia Drive, 2TB  has stopped giving a signal to the tv, it gives just a black screen.

Also :  the media player is not responding to the remote control, not even on/off.  And  : pressing the reset button on the backside gives no reaction.

I have tried different cables, I use the yellow/white/red cable, and diffent tv, no difference. I have taken all cables out and replugged them a few times. I have left the mp two days with no cables connected. Nothing worked so far. The harddisk looks fully operational. When usb connected to the pc I can copy and delete and play all files.

I looks like the software of the mediaplayer is not starting up properly.  I have tried installing new firmware, but for this you need the menu on the screen… and that’s just what I do not have.

Does anybody recognise the problem, and can give me a hint ? How can you install new firmware if you do not have access to the menus on your tv screen ??

What happens if you try the HDMI out ?     (to the left of the analog composite out)
