New User - Issues with network shares - I can see my folders and movies but can't play them

So I figured I would give the community a shot before returning my wd tv live plus.  I have a network file share thats viewable from my device.   I have a wired 1gb ethernet network and am replacing an asus media player with my wd tv (the asus player had no issues playing any of my movies over the network, just didnt like the interface).  I got my WD TV plugged in, connected to the network and fileshare without issue.  I can browse all my movies I have on the fileshare and they all appear to be there.  However, when I attempt to watch any of them, it seems to lock up the device.  Nothing happens,  it tries to load up the movie and occasionally I’ll get the ‘movie’ screen but its a 0 seconds and is a black screen and never moves past that.  Ive tried this on just about every media type that I have and its always the same, movie never loads only gets to the 0 second mark and never gets beyond that.  Like i mentioned, this is a direct replacement for an asus media player that works without issue and can see/view all of my movies.

Ive updated to the most recent firmware and nothing.  As you can imagine, Im quite frustrated by all of this but figured I would give the community a holler to see if they had any suggestions.

Thanks guys!

Joe

I would assume that you tried to play a ‘bad’ file and the unit hung up, after that nothing will work.

Try:

resetting via the side paperclip button with the unit on - it will reboot

resetting to factory defaults via the internal meny

unplugging from power for some minutes - not seconds

do all 3 before using the unit again.

Now try your movies.

Hi Rich,

I’ll give it a try here in a little bit.  Seems excessive that a movie that can play just fine on the asus side causes the WD TV box to crash so hard it has to be entirely reset…
