Why I can’t access the files in NAS drive once I changed the NAS drive name?
How are you accessing them?
If you’re using a link or network name such as \\MYCLOUDEX2\myshare\myfile.txt then if you change the name from MYCLOUDEX2 then the link to the drives will also change.
So if you rename it to MYWHIZZYEX2 then you’ll need to use \\MYWHIZZYEX2\myshare\myfile.txt to access the same file.
Otherwise use the IP address for the link, and for permanency assign it to a static IP address either in the EX2 or wherever your DHCP server is (usually your router).
Once I changed the name I can’t open accessible files using IP address also.
My device name: MyCloudEX2Ultra(with this name I can open)
Once I changed it to this: SRVBKP (I can’t open, only I can open using portal)
However, if I change the how to link it
I’d make sure that your router/DHCP is not giving the EX2 a new IP address when you change its name.
If it is then the name change will make it appear as a completely new device, hence all links will break.
I’m using static IP for NAS drive. What you meant router? Firewall?
I don’t think its because of router. Because I used it with separate laptop. But same.
The router (or whatever is running DHCP on your network and serving up IP addresses) will be doing so for your laptop as well, presuming that they’re on the same network.
Or if you’re saying that it works from the laptop but not from the PC, then look at how you’ve got the link addresses set up between the two and what’s different.
It wasn’t work with laptop also. Could you tell me if I changing the device name what should I do if it’s can’t access?
With the default name I can open it on run command using IP address. But once I changed the name I can’t open it like before.
With the name as default, have a look on your router and confirm what the IP address is for the EX2.
Then change the name, and see if the router still sees the EX2 under its new name or not, and if it does then see if it’s using a new IP address or the same as the old one.
As I said before, if you change the name then any “hard-coded” links will also need to change as they will use the new name . But normally the IP address shouldn’t change, so I’d start by seeing if it is changing or not.
How are you actually accessing the shares? Are you using mapped drives under Windows, or via some other route?
I have windows 2016 server os. I have shared files. Also mapped those shared files. Once I changed name I can’t access those files using IP or device name. I have 2 NAS drive. One for public things and other one for server backup. For the both drive I’m still using same device name. So I want to change one drive name.
One thing I didn’t understand. How I can give the IP for EX2 on router or switch?
Have a look at the links for the mapped files and drives, and see if they use the IP address ( \\192.168.?.?\myshare\myfolder\myfile.ext ) or if they use the name ( \\MyCloudEX2Ultra\myshare\myfolder\myfile.ext ).
Concerning the IP address, that would depend on the make and model of your router/switch. Look in the manual under DHCP, static IP addresses or IP address reservation.
