MyCloud with front LED flashing red light, dashboard said it was running on safe mode, now completely inaccessible

My drive was inaccessible on network following the recent auto-update attempt. So I tried to update on the dashboard. Following the reboot of the update, the front LED showed constant red light and the dashboard showed that it wasn’t updated. I tried a hard reboot of the drive, the front LED showed flashing red light and when attempting to enter dashboard, a message appeared in black box
“Safe Mode
Your device firmware appears to be corrupted and your device is currently running in Safe Mode. Please download the latest firmware from the WD Support website at http:\www.support.wdc.com and upload the firmware file below:” so I uploaded the latest firmware “WDMyCloud_5.28.105_prod.bin” as per instruction and “Apply”.

Since the process which took overnight, the dashboard and drive is now completely inaccessible, with front LED constantly flashing red. I am unable to find any similar problem in WD community or support forum. Does anyone know of anything I can do?

It is a 4TB MyCloud (single bay, full white model) running on firmware 5.27.161.

See the User Manual Appendix C: Troubleshooting. Try resetting your device four second and 40 second if needed.

If needed look at the User Guide for OS5.

Done all those. None worked. Emailed support and latest reply is “Depending on what kind of My Cloud system you own, it seems most likely that the firmware is corrupted.
If you can still not enter the dashboard after having done the 4 second and 40 second reset the best option is to replace your device if it is still under warranty.”
Definitely out of warranty. Looks like I’m going to have to try unbricking it - good luck to an amateur like me :persevere:

UPDATE:
I managed to unbrick it following instructions described in Unbricking WD Mycloud gen 2. SOLVED! - #6 by wda15675645436 by de4dc3ll, which rebuilt the WDMC to firmware 2.10.302. I then managed to update firmware using bin file for 2.31.204, which then prompted further firmware update to 2.42.115, then OS5 (firmware 5.26.202). However, further firmware update to 5.28.105 or even 5.27.157 using downloaded bin files didn’t work and kept getting stuck. I needed at least 5.27.157 for what I was using it before the auto-firmware update bricked it. And I was already considering moving away form WD NAS system so this was the final straw. It was good when they first started producing NAS for home but has not lagged behind others in development. Now, I’ve officially given up on WD NAS for personal use. I wish everyone still using WD good luck.
Thanks and adios.
