MyCloud EX2100 Disconnects From Network Daily

My new WD My Cloud EX2100 keeps Disconnecting itself From the Network. It’s a daily issue.

I added the updated software, I added a static IP but nothing has fixed the issue.

Please let me know what I need to do to stop this from happening, it’s becoming extremely annoying.

How dou you access the mycloud? Via the app or directly through a network share?

Network share

OK.

Please tell us a bit about your network. Which router dou you use? do you use both LAN ports on the EX2100?
Is drive spindown enabled? are media servers active?
Is only the share not seen and ping to the ip is possible?

My EX4100 is experiencing the same issue.

I am only using one of the ethernet ports at a time, but I have tried both.
The EX4100 is a DHCP client of my firewall and when I power-cycle the NAS, it obtains the IP address assigned to its MAC on Port 1 and I am able to get ARP resolution, ping it and map its shares.

The next day, it simply loses its IP and does not try to get it again via DHCP. It does not respond to ARP requests. It’s simply dead. I powered cycled it again on 4/5 and it updated its firmware on 4/6, before it became unresponsive again

Hi @bsupple601 and @JERALD_JOSEPHS,

Going to ask the really obvious question here, but have you tried different patch leads in case the patch leads are faulty ? Sometimes the most obvious thing that is overlooked may in fact be the reason.

Cheers,

Great question!

I connected both ports, using different cables to different ports on my switch.

Keep in mind that the NAS is online and available after it boots, but then disappears after a day or so.

While it is online, I have access to its shares and my Mac can complete a TimeMachine backup

It’s the thumbnail issue that is causing problems on the regular WD MyClouds… I tried to do the SSH shut down but the EX2 has a different set of commands then the My Cloud…

These are the 1s I entered -

/etc/init.d/wdmcserverd stop
/etc/init.d/wdphotodbmergerd stop

But it wasn’t working… Found out the EX2 has different command…

Can anyone out there help me out with this?

Thanks!

** BTW anyone out there know why don’t they either get rid of it or fix it? It’s been screwed up since 2014! **
