My passport for mac doesnt work

Hi
A few years ago i bought a external disc (WD passport for mac). In the begining it works really good, but a few months ago when i update the software of my mac book pro, the computer doesnt recognized. A message that says: “The mac doesnt read the disc that you connected” appears every time i try to work in the disc.
Please help. I have a lot of important information in the external disc
PD: in other forum i read that if you update the software of your mac book you have to try to rescue the information in a laptop with a older system.

What software did you updated on MacBook Pro? Are you able to see your external drive in Disk utility? Can you share the DU screenshot?
