Hi, I have got several urgent emails, that my cloud home firmware needs to be upgraded. When I was trying to do it actively, I found, there is no Dashboard available to start the upgrade. The only thing I found is that I need to leave it up and running, connected to internet and sit and wait at least 24h. Almost 30h past and the firmware version stays as original. Is there any option to enter the upgrade process actively and to check how it progresses?
What version are you running?
5.0.5.104
Wow very old indeed.
Still not updated?
You can try to restart maybe.
Or then wait, the thing is that it might need to do a big update because they changed a lot of things under the good after that firmware.
If you haven’t put any file yet maybe a factory rester would trigger the update.
Hi, thanks for your effort. That is what I have also mentioned in the issue. The only thing here to do is to change the network . This makes no difference, while when I am able to access My Cloud Home from mycloud.com, the network is working fine, no need to change anything.
Hi, thanks for your reply. Factory reset is the last thing I would do. I have already 3 TB of data (photos, …) stored at my cloud home. I could live with the old firmware despite of warning from wdc.com.
I can give it a few days more waiting for the miracle Similar experience I have with my old my book live.
It keeped me warning that new fw version was available but I have tried almost 100 times to upgrade it with no success. So those are my experiences and the issue with MCH does not surprise me
If you have the same issue with the other old My Cloud, maybe there is an issue with your ISP or router blocking some ports?
Interesstting. What ports exactly do you mean? Is not it enough to being able to access MCH through mycloud.com? When MCH is accessible from internet is it not enough to upgrade the firmware?
I don’t know.
Is UPnP enabled on your router?
Did you restart and wait a maximum of 24h as suggested and written in the knowledge base?
Generally speaking yes, yes. Router is configured and I have made several Plug out / Plug In on MCH and left it run for more than 30h
Hello,
UPnP is a setting within the router for devices to self configure the way they access the internet (by opening some ports).
I don’t know if plug in / plug out is OK for the MCH. There is a way to restart softly if you access it through the app or the mycloud.com website, in the setting part. Maybe worth a try.
Soft restart and soft shut down have tried too of course. I was just trying to express that I have tried everything.
Router does not seems to be the root cause
Hopefully, a @WDStaff will look into this.
Good luck
If you haven’t already, enable Analytics, Collect the debug logs and send to support.
Ensure to put “Stuck on firmware 5.0.5.104” in the subject
Hi SBrown, I would love to. In the links you sent,
there were just instructions and not possible to send any attachments. In the instructions there is a link to support portal ( https://westerndigital.secure.force.com/ind/?lang=en_US) which is unavailable. If you can do something about it Iwould like to send you the log, for any case. Through this Chat it is not allowed.Final question: I have the same issue with my book live. I have made the report for it: Incident #: 210202-000343. How should I proceed?
Can you attach the My Book Live logs to your case?
Hi, I have tried, but your server has rejected because max size limit is exeeded. How shouldI minimize the log?

A “Check for updates” option should’ve been in the MCH settings from day 1.
Hallo, so you think this is the silution for automatic update in My Cloud Home not working?
