My Cloud Home Duo – Loud Fan Noise & No Access to Data

Hello everyone,

I hope someone here can help me with my issue.

I own a My Cloud Home Duo, which I bought a long time ago but haven’t used in a while. I recently powered it on again and encountered two problems:

  1. The fan is running very loudly and doesn’t stop, this wasn’t the case before, well at least I don´t remember it being so loud.
  2. I can’t access the device anymore.

I’m using a Mac, and in the past, I was able to access my files through an old WD software that integrated with Finder. That software now says it’s outdated, and I’m supposed to use the web login instead. However, even when I log in via the WD My Cloud website, I can’t access my data or see the device properly. It says the device is offline.

I’m not very tech-savvy and don’t want to damage anything, so I’m reaching out here first.

Also, I own a WD My Book (single drive)*that I use for backups.

My question:

If the My Cloud Home Duo is broken, is it possible to remove the drives and insert them into to the single-drive My Book to retrieve the data via USB? Or is that not how it works?

Thanks in advance for any help or advice you can offer!

Hi

I’m currently having the same problem. A loud fan that runs continuously, no data, no LED light. If I remove a hard drive (position 1), the problem goes away, but there’s no connectivity, and it reboots every 10 seconds. Annoying.

Have you found a solution yet?

Regards, Matthias
