My Cloud EX2 vs My Could Home Dual vs My Cloud Mirror?

Hey there community,

I’m looking to upgrade my old MyBook NAS and I just cannot sort out which is the best option for me. I tried asking WD support but either they don’t know the answers or maybe they are told not to offer any advice. They just keep sending me spreadsheets like this Differences Between My Cloud Models, which is nice but does not really help me answer my questions.

I’m hoping some of you fine folk can offer your opinions or advice. Here is what I’m looking for out of the drive.

  • I like the dual RAID setup so that if one drive fails I have a copy.
  • I run 1 windows10 laptop, 2 android phones, and a Roku stick attached to my TV through my router. I’d like all of these to have access to the media on whichever MyCloud device I set up.
  • I want the MyCloud device to backup my laptop and the phones (I’m OK if the software running the backups is on the laptop/ phones so long as the data is backed up)
  • I’d like to run a Plex server off the MyCloud device independently of my laptop so I can stream to my TV without the laptop having to be turned on or even in the building (if possible).
  • I’d like to be able to access data on the MyCloud device from my laptop and phones anywhere in the world, but have it be pretty secure (if possible).

That’s about it for me. Thanks again for any support or advice you can offer.

Hi Tarmy,

You can go with My cloud mirror or higher as they all have what you are looking for,
You can set up the Raid configuration to Raid 1 so that drive 1 will be mirrored to drive 2
using SmartWare on your laptop and mobile app on your phone you can create the backups
You can install plex app on my cloud and start streaming your favorite videos
You can access all your content from your device over My cloud.com using your credentials it a secure peer to peer connection.
