My cloud with v04.01.04-422 crashed every time that I try to copy files larger than 200MB, just start copying less than 5 seconds and MyCloud did not respond. No respond to PING, the led is blue, back leds green and blinking.
It has fixed ip, I tryed with other router, also not using the wifi, connected with ethernet, but it still freezing and I have to unplug for more than a minute, connect again and works for streamming without problems (connected to a SAMSUNG smart TV), the only problem is when I try to copy files to it.
My laptop is running windows 8
The only solution founded at this time is using the SYNCTOY, instead of copy the files with the file explorer, I sync a folder between MyCloud and my laptop, copying files larger than 800 mb without problems.
With this I believe there is a problem with the windows file copying that crashes MyCloud,
There’s something wrong if File Explorer can’t write to the device. Let’s try to fix that problem rather than adding further, unnecessary complications, eh?
The MyCloud desktop app is unnecessary for accessing a MyCloud on a local network; mapping it into Windows’ file system is the simplest and most ‘natural’ way of accessing locally.

is correct, I have mapped one drive and is how I access to mycloud.
Two years on… I was having similar problems. Other threads led me to believe that having done several firmware updates, then having had WE file copies and WDSync backups aborted / hung for a variety of reasons, that indeed Linux needed a full rebuild of the file system to clear the problem up. Since I had no data to lose on the MyCloud at that point, I did a full factory restore. 18 hours later, it was done. Reset my configuration from scratch. Just did a 43GB windows explorer copy of videos up to the MyCloud, 11mb/sec average rate (not terribly impressive, but that could be my router). All is well.
I, too, was having problems accessing via Windows Explorer. What I did:
File Explorer, click on This PC, use Add Network Place.
Made sure that my PC’s name had a matching user set up in the MyCloud
Set the path to \WDMyCloud\Public (watch the upper/lower case)
When asked by Windows, gave it my Mycloud username and password
This ended up creating a shortcut under This PC in the folder tree in Windows Explorer. I was looking for it under Network, where the MyCloud only shows up as Storage, but hey – I’m happy!!
Other settings I did check, of course: same WORKGROUP name as my network uses; same SMB level (3).
Hopefully this is helpful to the next lost soul that makes it this far into the community’s memory banks…
