i have no problem playing MP4 on my MacBook Pro by finding an MP4 on our home network mycloud. Unfortunately I have not figured out why our Windows 10 machine will not play the same video. We have downloaded the App for windows but when we find the video and select it nothing happens.
Please help
How are you accessing the MyCloud on Mac and Windows? Finder/Explorer?WD app? As a file server, or media server?
Do you have any programs on the Windows machine that will play MP4 videos?
No problems playing MP4 files here on several Windows 10 PC’s using Window 10 Movies & TV app, VLC, and Windows Media Player.
Typically when Windows cannot play a particular media file format its because it is missing the “codec” to play that media file. Install VLC (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/) or some other good third party media player and the codec to play MP4 should be installed to allow you to play MP4 files.
I am on my Desktop PC and have the anniversary Windows 10 on it and just played a MP4 with no problem. It opened and played with**Movies and TV**. I will try it with the WD Desktop app. Using this it opened and played with Windows Media Player.
On the Mac, I am accessing through the finder. On the PC, I have been using the app thinking it should work. I am not familiar with the “Movies and TV”. THe MP$ usually play in Windows Media Player.
Do I need to change some settings? I have been trying to read information but I get lost in it. I will see if it will play other MP4
I assume windows media player. How can I check and/or Change
You change the default apps on the Default Apps page located under Settings > System > Default Apps.
If you view the files using Windows File Explorer you can right click on the file and select “Open With” and then choose the app to open the file with. Note this option doesn’t change the default app rather just opens the file with what ever app you select at that time.
I did change the default app and the movie plays using windows media player. Thats not right, is it?
While on that same Default App screen scroll to the bottom and select Choose Default App by File Type. Scroll down the list to MP4 and see what is the default app. If its Windows Media Player, click on the app name and choose a different app to play MP4 files.
Why not? What program do you want it to play with?
