Im using WD external harddrive, 1T, that was bucking up all my pc files automatically. Recently Ive upgraded software, and it seems all files disappeared from harddrive. At the same time there are 170 Gigs of files under “Additional files” section that I can not access. Is it possible that during upgrade, the system moved all my old files to that location?. Could anyone tell me is there a way to get those files out? I can’t see what is there even when I access WD book via windows, my computer screen-it only gets me to see about 16 numbered files in my book, but they are empty.
I saw someone suggested to get to file called smartware.sw.stor-but how do I find that file? I tried search function in my computer as well as My book, it didn’t show any results. Thank you
The Additional files block represents the backup that you previously made, you should be able to recover your backup from the Smartware Retrieve tab or by exploring the external hard drive manually, the backup folder is called smartware.swstor.
Thank you for responding, would you be able to post step by step directions on how do I get to that file, firmware.swstor? I just can’t find it, don’t know what am I doing wrong. Thank you
The smartware.swstor folder should be on the root folder of the external hard drive. If you don’t see any folders with that name, you can also try to right click on all of the folders that you have inside the external hard drive and then click on properties, from this window, you will see the size for the selected folder. Since you can see 170GB of additional files from the Smartware backup tab, try to look for a folder that has an approximate size and then explore the files in it.
