macOS High Sierra - Time Machine backup to user created share

Hi there,

My EX2 Ultra has been doing great so far, but I have ran into multiple issues regarding Time Machine on Mac lately. WD support has openly stated that Time Machine is an Apple service so they are unable to help.

I’ve successfully created my Time Machine backup on a share that I have created. (Not the default TimeMachineBackup share that is default on all MyCloud devices). The reason why I choose to do this is because I intend to backup a few different Mac’s to this EX2. My intention was for each Mac to have its own private share for the Time Machine backup.

However, I am now getting this error message on my Mac (macOS High Sierra) repeatedly:

The backup disk image “/Volumes/MyVolume/MyComputer.sparsebundle” is already in use

I have a one question then:

Do I have to use the default “TimeMachineBackup” share for all my separate Mac backups?

Note that I have checked for all the correct settings. (Settings>General>Time Machine>On)

Please advise as I am pulling my hair out! Thank you so much!

Hi MacTimeMachine,
