While the indexing was in progress after the OS 5 upgrade, I moved image/video files from one share to another. Now, the files are being displayed in the Photos section on the mobile app and web app however, on clicked the files cannot be viewed/played and the Info option shows the old path. The download option also fails to download the file giving error that content is not available. It seems the index still has old data and needs to be updated.
Is there a way to force index updates or force the indexing service to re-index files?
Wow. . . .that’s a bit of a nuclear option; is it not?
That type of reset will wipe all the user accounts on the machine and most device settings to default. OK. . . it doesn’t take long if you only have a few accounts and shares . . .but still. (Full disclosure: I did do this once. . . .it was actually “refreshing” to start over and clean house on a bunch of garbage accounts and shares)
Under settings - - > Utilities is - - - > System configuration; which has “Save” and “import” options. I suspect if doing a reset like this. . .you may want to look into what this feature does. (I personally have not the faintest idea)
Should there not be a button to reintiallize the index WITHOUT nuking the user accounts?
The issue got fixed automatically after a day. It seems the indexing service figured out the changes and updated the index. It took lot of time but good thing is that it got fixed automatically.
As @NAS_user said, it would be best to have a button to re-index to repair it in case things don’t get fixed for some reason.
