Got my 2TB MBL yestarday and installed it. It shows up on my MacBook but when I try to set a password, create users or do anything really for the MBL it throws an error saying there’s an internal server error and to contact WD Support if it continues. I have contacted them but still no reply as it takes up to 24 hours but I need this working ASAP.
When I click the ‘Utilities’ button it says ‘Please Wait’ and just tries to load for ages.
I have tried to SSH it but when I am connected I’m unsure what to do as no additional information is given by Terminal.
The commands I issued were:
ssh rootname:IP of MBL.
Enter Password: **
It then confirmed I was connected to the MBL but the help function didn’t advise too much.
Cheers.
P.S. I used the search funtionality of this site last night but could only find how to do it with Windows and PuTTy.
Realised this isn’t my issue. Would still like to knwo the answer for future reference and to help other Mac users out since there is a lack on information on this topic.
My issue is that the program, when installing the CD, the program doesn’t discover the HDD. It was showing another screen which said the name etc on it so I pressumed it had found it since it was showing in my Shared Drives list.
Now I need to go back to basics. For someone that is a Systems Analyst that’s primary instinct is paying attention to detail I sure messed that up lol.
Indeed if someone can help on a Mac factory restore it would be extremely helpful.
Not sure what I am going to do with my MBL if I don’t sort this issue out.
Use Terminal to create a connection to your MyBook Live (ssh root@mybooklive ip address)
Login to MBL using username: root with password: welc0me
run the script /usr/local/sbin/factoryRestore.sh noreformat
I’ve found after that it’s most evffective when it completes (give it 10 minutes) to then reset the unit on the back.
This worked for me on the last two I bought, that I made the mistake up updating when they came out of the box before checking here for issues. Both stuck in the state it seems yours is in. Seems as though WD seems to think it’s an edge case scenario, but failure for me was 100% on out of the box units instantly upgraded to the latest release.
Decent units, but be prepared to dance with the devil on every update has been my experience (I have two lMy Book Lives, one Studio and two Essentials.
