Know issues with new Firmware - How to Factory Restore on a Mac?

I have been reading for two days on how to perform a factory restore on a messed up (although new) MBL 2TB. All the options I found on this forum seem to be working well on a Windows system, but I can’t seem to find a way to make it work on a Mac (running Mountain Lion). Maybe I’m just not technical enough.

The only viable option to me seems to use a ssh command. I’ve been trying to learn the ssh to execute the command /usr/local/sbin/factoryRestore.sh but it seems I cannot access my unit via ssh (connection refused on port 20).

I am kind of clueless on how to make my MBL work properly, so that I can access all the options on the dashboard, create users, activate remote access, etc. Seems everyone has the same issues.

Any help? Thanks

Hi

I am kind of in the same boat as you. My MBL runs all its functions, including remote access, twonky-media, itunes server, Time machine and everything, EXCEPT Dashboard. I get the login page, and then the main menu. But in the bottom where it normally shows size and free size of volume, it states 0 of 0 TB free. If I try to go to Settings it flashes and reload the menu page.

I can backup my data from datavolumes, so I am looking for at way to reset it to like factory state.

I can ssh and there for I can execute commands found in the /src/local/sbin folder from a ssh/terminal client. But what happens if I run masterInstall.sh, anybody who have tried?

I have tried to reset with the hardware button on the back of the MBL, it doesn’t help. Only thing happened was my ssh password was reset to factory standard.

@GBen77: When I access via ssh I use port 22, and remember that you should have ssh set to on in the configuration file, before you lost access to dashboard?

EDIT: Problem solved  By mistake I had runned chown on the etc folder and changed owner on all files in there from 0 to 1000. BIG mistake. Found a clou in a log file…
