Restore MyBook Live to factory settings without using the dahsboard

I have a MyBook Live I need to restore to factory settings. WD support suggested I do this and instucted me to do it usung the Utilities from the dashboard. However, my dashboard will not bring up Utilities. Whenever I click it, I get the spinning hourglass for several minutes (usually 15-20) and then nothing. So I can not get to the Utilities to do the restore. Is there another way to do the factory restor without going through the dashboard? Thanks for any help.

By “Dashboard,” are you referring to the Web Manager on the MBL itself?   or the WD Quickview dashboard?

If you can get into the Web GUI, you can do the same thing from there.

You can ssh into your MBL using  PUTTY and issue the following command:

(you will need to enable  SSH  first.)

/usr/local/sbin/factoryRestore.sh noreformat

wait about 5 minutes…and make sure the green light is not flashing and then issue the following command

reboot

That will reset to factory settings and it should work. I had the same issue and that did it for me.

Good Luck!

Please can you give me detailed info how to do this. I have downloaded putty and have tried to use it with the instructions given on this forum but i don’t understand how I put in the line of information that is given ie  /usr/local/sbin/factoryRestore.sh noreformat  Do I type this in or can I copy and paste? Then do I press enter, sorry I’m a complete novices when it comes to programming . Regards Dave

Yes can someone please give detailed instructions as I have too downloaded Putty with no luck in getting it to work.
