Hi Gurus! I just bought a 2TB refurbished My Cloud (white) device. How can I know if it has the latest features and firmware? Also, is it possible that it is an older model and will forever be missing new features? Thanks in advance!

What firmware does it have on it now? If version 2, it’s the latest version of the hardware. If version 4, it’s the older version.
Thanks Tony! How can I check the current firmware version?
By using the Dashboard (the MyCloud’s user interface). It’s probably a good time to go and download and read the user manual.
By the way, the newer, Gen2, models might have slightly faster hardware, and ‘newer’ firmware, but that new firmware may not be as versatile as the older version, since it uses a lesser version of Linux (BusyBox vs Debian). This may be immaterial to you if you don’t intend to delve ‘under the hood’.
The newer firmware has a less capable backup utility, since it is currently unable to automatically schedule backups, it would appear.
In short, I don’t think it’s a clear-cut choice of which is better.
Thanks for the quick reply and this feedback. Interesting how these trade-offs occur with older vs. newer firmware. Can you please tell me how I would check the firmware version.
Got the firmware version! Thanks for your help. If you have a minute, can you please check out my other inquiry about remove management. Thanks! Ken
