Help Starting My Cloud from the beginning

I bought the WD My Cloud a few years ago and couldn’t figure it out and left it. Now trying to organize and looking to use it. Don’t even know where to begin, as I lost instructions. I found the power cord, but need to find the router hook up (I guess).

Can anyone point me to a basic step by step on how to get it running either on the forum or on youtube, etc. Thanks!

Download and read the My Cloud User Manual from the WD Support site. It explains how to setup the My Cloud and use its various features.

Thank you!

I would recommend not using the automated setup, but, instead, using the Dashboard built in to the device; once you have connected the device to your router, and applied power, skip to the user manual section ‘The Dashboard At A Glance’. You will learn much more about how to make the device work.

Note that the automated setup, and that video above, encourage you to install various bits of WD software. None is necessary to use the MyCloud as a basic, local-access file and media server.

My advice is to get the basic device working, and then look into the options for installing and using the various bits of WD software, or third party alternatives. You need to understand what each of the bits of software do, and if you need them, rather than blindly installing them because a WD video shows you how.
