HDD swap from MyCloud to My Cloud EX2

Hey,
Would you know if its possible to remove disks from WD Cloud os3 and insert to EX2 Ultra?
Soon os3 will not be supported, and my current device will stop working. I was hoping to get EX2 Ultra 0TB and swap old disks to EX2 U device which supports os5.

Is it like remove/insert or something more is needed?

Cheers,

it can be possible to re-use the disks but data and raids setting not so much.

step one is to make a backup of data they you can just re-load after you set EX2 to os5

then open the cloud unit and check the type of WD disk
if disk is 3 years or older you may be better off with newer disk units.

I have connected old WD disks and NAS raid on to a Linus system to read and recover type 0 and tyoe1 raid disk sets.

Thanks for the tip!
It seems it could work

Will order a 0TB unit, do the swap and let all know

Just to clarify, your MyCloud (Mirror? EX2?) will NOT stop working in April. The only feature that you will lose is remote (internet) access. If this is critical to you then, yes, just remove the drives from the old device, inset them in the new EX2 Ultra and run set up (format, etc).

Its WD My Cloud device.
Yes, external access is important for me - thanks for the tip.

Actually I have decided to wait for a bit - Ultra EX2 is 2016 device, and hoping WD would release something newer in the near future.

Yes, honestly, I’d pass on any future WD NAS purchases. For an extra $50-$70, you can get a Synology DS218play - vastly superior device and support.
