HDD is close to break down - how can I fix it?

Hello, I have an old WD Home 4T and for some time now I’ve been having problems transferring data (NAS freezes and has to be rebooted) and when I go to the WD interface I get warnings that the hard drive is about to fail completely and should be replaced as soon as possible (it’s already a few years old).

What should I do? Would it work if I got a new NAS hard drive and then installed it (possibly after cloning the old one to the new one)?

At the moment I’m in the process of backing up the remaining data to other drives (takes ages). Best wishes and thanks for the expert advice, Anita

Welcome back to the forum. Assuming indeed you have a My Cloud Home which was introduced around November of 2017, you may have joined this subforum 10 months before it’s introduction?

This is the front white LED of the My Cloud Home. If you don’t have this unit, please visit the My Cloud OS3 or OS5 subforums and post your questions there.

If you simply go to the WD community landing page, you will see your unit’s picture listed on the left side. Simply click on the OS3 or OS5 subforum and it will lead you to their subforums with owners who know what you have.

Cheers.

hello …well, I bought the server in January 2017 from Amazon (so it might have been a kind of time-travelling?)

just finished saving all data from the HDD …now I try to format it (but it seems to stuck)

Regarding your hint, this might not be a “WD-home” NAS? hmm, I always thought, it is

thx for helping

Any answers provided for the My Cloud Home OS4 which is a completely different hardware and OS than your My Cloud will NOT be applicable for you.

If you simply go to the WD community landing page, you will see your unit’s picture listed on the left side. Simply click on the OS3 or OS5 subforum and it will lead you to their subforums with owners who know what you have.
