Getting an Email link to a file on a My Cloud Public Folder!

This used to be easy to do with the WD Web access app. Since that has gone away how do I get an link to a file in a public folder that I can share, email, text. I used this all the time to send big files, pictures, etc, to clients.

Will the people receiving the email be on the same local network as the OS3 My Cloud? If not, bit of a waste of effort if one doesn’t have some sort of remote access to their OS3 My Cloud. In any event for people on the same local network one should be able to use a link like the following in an email.

\\Server\Share\filename

Any spaces in the NAS device name, Share name or file name may present issues. For Outlook one can wrap the URL with greater/less than brackets (example: <url>)

How to email links to files or folders on your network

Thank you for responding. So I have a 50 GB CD music folder with folders, sub folder, and mp2 files.

I wanted to share my Library with a bunch of folks. As it turn out the ways to do this are limited, Google drive does not work, iCloud drive does not work, and MYCloud OS3 no longer has the option to create email links to Folders.

So maybe it is time for a new NAS that has a file manager that will do this create links to email large FOLDERS.

I don’t want WD. They basically pulled the plug on their customers. WD could have left the OS3 accessible without supporting it for folks to use.

What is a good NAS that will do this.

If your My Cloud cannot be updated to OS5 and you don’t want to look into some sort of VPN connection (VPN server on local network). Or don’t want to setup something like a Plex Media Server (with Plex Pass) or similar media server to remote share/stream one’s music/media. Then one will likely have to look into a new NAS. OS3 devices are very long in the tooth anyway when WD ended support for them so likely is not a bad idea to look into either buying a new NAS or building an NAS out of spare parts. Plenty of DIY build your own NAS guides out there if one wants to save a some money versus buying Synology, QNAP, newer WD NAS or some other manufacturer’s NAS.
